La XVI Cita Cumbre del Foro de Cooperación Económica Asia-Pacífico – APEC a realizarse en nuestro país en noviembre próximo, ha despertado especial interés en los líderes de las 21 economías más importantes de la cuenca del Pacífico. ¿Por qué los políticos, empresarios e inversionistas de los países que integran APEC han puesto la mirada en el Perú?
Porque nuestro país registra el mayor crecimiento sostenido en América Latina, mostrando estabilidad económica y política, ofreciendo grandes posibilidades a los inversionistas por su estratégica ubicación geográfica, colindante con cinco países sudamericanos, incluyendo al gigante Brasil y por su interconexión vial con estos países a través de la carretera Panamericana, la Marginal de la selva y los ejes transversales norte, centro y sur (Interoceánicas).
Los objetivos fundamentales del Foro de Cooperación Económica Asia-Pacífico son: la liberación del comercio y las inversiones, la facilitación de los negocios y la cooperación económica para fomentar el desarrollo de los países miembros.
En el Perú, al igual que Chile y México, únicos países latinoamericanos que integran APEC, hemos iniciado importantes acuerdos y compromisos de libre comercio con Estados Unidos, Canadá, China, la Unión Europea, MERCOSUR, etc. para liberalizar el comercio y las inversiones. También hemos iniciado acciones de simplificación para eliminar trabas burocráticas y administrativas y así facilitar los negocios.
Decimos que es el turno del Perú porque estamos sintonizados con los objetivos de APEC, y si Vietnam, siendo un país más pequeño y con menos recursos que el nuestro, logró más de 6,000 millones de dólares de inversión luego de ser anfitrión de la cumbre APEC 2006, nuestro país debe lograr atraer inversiones por un monto mucho mayor.
En el marco APEC 2008, desde el 19 de febrero en que se desarrolló en Lima la primera reunión multisectorial de altos funcionarios, hasta el 23 de noviembre, fecha en que se congregarán los líderes de las 21 economías de Asia-Pacífico, en nuestro país se desarrollarán más de 120 reuniones de los diferentes grupos de trabajo en 10 ciudades distintas, correspondiéndole a Trujillo ser sede de las reuniones de vice Ministros y Ministros de Finanzas, que se realizarán del 3 al 7 de noviembre. A estas reuniones también asistirán presidentes de bancos centrales, organismos financieros internacionales, empresarios e inversionistas.
Nuestras autoridades de los gobiernos regional y municipal deberían dejar de lado posiciones políticas y trabajar juntos para mejorar la presentación de la ciudad, aprovechando al máximo esta oportunidad para mostrar a nuestros visitantes los atractivos turísticos de Trujillo y las potencialidades económicas de La Libertad.
